Out with Ramos, in with Redknapp in a whirlwind 24 hours that surely few fans would have predicted. Despite the blogs and message boards being lit up with calls for Ramos' sacking, few fans had any ideas of a replacement. No one, and I mean absolutely no one, suggested big 'Arry.
And while the headlines in today's papers herald the coming of a new manager there are much bigger things going on here than a mere change at the top. All credit to Daniel Levy for recognising that a change of structure was needed if he was to attract a new manager. And, if the evidence of yesterday's game was anything to go by, shifting the structure of the team could also unlock the potential that so many of us hoped was there.
Bentley on the right supplying cross after cross; Luka Modric playing just behind Roman Pavlyuchenko in a role that suited his talents and Aaron Lenon brought in late on the wing to provide some pace for the final 20. Spurs had balance and looked like a team - it was refreshing after that debarcle against Stoke.
Like many Spurs fans I'm feeling optimistic this morning that we can improve and with 'Arry we have the perfect manager to take us away from the bottom three, but let's not put the cart before the horse.
While yesterday was an excellent result the team's confidence will still be wafer thin and there's a long way to go before we start matching the form of Villa, say, who have been excellent so far and are surely the most likely challengers for top four honours. We also have some big fixtures ahead with the Arse and then Liverpool twice - two teams in stunning form.
So, while it's time to breathe a sigh of relief and start looking forward, let's be realistic. As 'Arry said yesterday: "We've got to escape relegation, anything else is a bonus."
